Swiss Hacking Challenge 2018— Team Selection
September 9th, 2018
Since 2013, Switzerland is participating in the annual European Cyber Security Challenge. The hacking contest between Austria, Germany and Switzerland was a boutique CTF between these three countries and eventually became a major pan-European cyber security hacking contest with 17 countries. The main goal of this initiative is to bring cyber talents together and support them to pursue a career in cyber security.
Cyber Security Challenge UK is very proud to host this year’s edition of the European Cybersecurity Challenge in London with 17 teams from all over Europe! Every team consists of ten contestants in the age between 15 and 25 years old.
Swiss Qualification
Starting from April 1st. until end of July 2018, Swiss cyber talents were being invited to take part of the online qualification CTF by solving given riddles and hacking challenges provided by the Hacking-lab platform. Last weekend, the top ranked players were being invited to the Swiss Team Selection Event in Rümlang, close to Zürich.
Swiss Team Selection
The Swiss Cyber Storm Association runs the Swiss Hacking Challenge #SHC18. Please find below a picture with all the cyber talents and organizers. At the end of the day, the coaches had to nominate 10 players from the players in the picture below. The players made it awful hard to choose the Swiss team. We would have loved to bring all players to London UK.
Exercises
During the weekend, the Swiss cyber talents did several workshops in the field of
- Timeline analysis; tracking down Windows malware
- Android E-Banking mobile app analysis; real e-banking malware
- OSINT workshop; how to track down the persona
- iOS and Android security workshop; how to use the security features
- forensic CTF challenges

October 30th, 2018 — Swiss Master Final
Swiss Cyber Storm will run the first Swiss Master Final in parallel to the Swiss Cyber Storm Conference on October 30th at the Kursaal in Berne.
Best ranked players from the Online Qualifying are invited to compete in a jeopardy-style CTF against each others. The contest is limited to 30 players. Players can subscribe on a first come first serve base. However — players from the Swiss Team Selection and best ranked players from the Hacking-Lab qualifying get their seats first. Other Swiss players may join the CTF.
