Meet Nicolas Rémond: Head of Engineering at SwissBorg

A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris, Nicolas is the former VP of BioWatch & Co-founder of In&Win. An expert in distributed and scalable IT systems with 15 years of experience which began in Singapore, continued in Silicon Valley and led to Switzerland, Nicolas is passionate about entrepreneurship and software development. At SwissBorg he manages the development of the referendum system and the dashboard platform. He is in charge of recruiting the technical team and defining the vision for the global IT architecture. Excited about the openness of SwissBorg towards its community and the participatory role the community plays in decision making, Nicolas sees joining SwissBorg as an excellent opportunity to become involved in the making of the current paradigm shift in the financial industry.

Growing up in rural Alsace, France, Nicolas started working on the family owned vineyard as a young teenager. There he grew to appreciate the importance of hard work, precision, and planning. The manual labor was rewarding but Nicolas’ brain needed a bigger challenge, his passion for Mathematics and his higher education helped take him far away from his rural background to Singapour and the Silicon Valley. His appetite for discovering the world led him to travel far and wide. His facility with math from a young age provided him with a universal language that opened new horizons. In Maths he saw a pristine method to arrive at truth, with algorithms he saw the extension of that language and the infinite possibilities for analyses and understanding that it offered.

Besides his passion for his work as a Software engineer, Nicolas is an avid analog photographer and snowboarder. His travels to off-the-beaten-path places to places such as Uzbekistan, Syria, and Vanuatu are witness to his wanderlust both in the real and the cyber space. He believes human connection is the cornerstone of personal development and necessary ingredient of a successful fintech company.

Living in Switzerland for the past twelve years Nicolas has grown to embrace the decentralized and participatory nature of the country’s political system. He sees in SwissBorg a chance to extend decentralization and community engagement to the Fintech space.
