Hey everyone,

Welcome back to Adoption Friday with adoption news from around the world. In this week’s batch:

🇬🇧 Gavin Wood aims for fee-free crypto transactions

🇪🇺 Iota completes EU’s blockchain procurement phase

🇦🇷 Argentina introduces blockchain in high schools

🌐 Survey on crypto’s impact on dating preferences

🇳🇬 Nigeria urged to adopt compliance-focused crypto regulation

🇬🇧 Gavin Wood aims for fee-free crypto transactions

Gavin Wood, co-founder of Ethereum, Polkadot, and Kusama, aims to make Web3 technology and cryptocurrency accessible to everyone by removing transaction fees. He and Vitalik Buterin initially wanted to eliminate Ether from the Ethereum ecosystem but ultimately kept it for anti-spam measures. Wood believes that divorcing Ethereum from Ether is necessary to bring 6 billion Web2 users into the Web3 space. He is working on a solution called proof-of-ink and Polkadot’s JAM chain to achieve free cryptocurrency transactions.

Our take:

Wood’s push for fee-free transactions is a bold move towards mass adoption. If it works out, it would make blockchain accessible and seamless for everyone, as it should be.

🇪🇺 Iota completes EU’s blockchain procurement phase

Iota has completed the final phase of the European Union’s blockchain Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP), which aims to establish scalable, sustainable, and secure blockchain infrastructure. This initiative involved collaboration with leading blockchain developers to create prototypes using distributed ledger technology for specific applications such as intellectual property rights management and digital product passports. The end goal is to enable scalable and energy-efficient blockchain applications across the EU.

Our take:

This achievement showcases the potential for blockchain to transform industries sustainably. Energy-efficient blockchain solutions are the future.

🇦🇷 Argentina introduces blockchain in high schools

Argentina’s Ministry of Education has teamed up with ETH Kipu to introduce Ethereum and blockchain technology to high schools in Buenos Aires. This initiative includes offering blockchain internships to students and implementing an online Solidity course to train 500 students to develop decentralized applications with the programming language. The goal is to provide students with the tools to shape the future and open up new career opportunities in the blockchain industry.

Our take:

Empowering students with blockchain skills opens up future opportunities. Nice to see governments are committed to investing in education as a catalyst for innovation in the tech world.

🌐 Survey on crypto’s impact on dating preferences

A survey found that women generally find men involved in cryptocurrency less attractive than those involved in hobbies like cosplaying, watching anime, or reading comic books. The survey also found that women are more interested in men who play instruments, read, or learn foreign languages. However, the survey noted that people should pursue hobbies they enjoy rather than those considered attractive to others. Furthermore, another survey showed that women were generally more skeptical of investing in or using cryptocurrency compared to men.

Our take:

It’s nice to see blockchain technology be at least present enough to make such a list. But this goes to show that mass adoption still has some way to go.

🇳🇬 Nigeria urged to adopt compliance-focused crypto regulation

In Nigeria, stakeholders in the cryptocurrency industry are urging the government to adopt a more compliance-focused regulatory framework rather than a punitive one. They believe that such an approach, similar to India’s recent resolution with Binance, would be more effective in regulating the industry while fostering innovation and preserving investor trust. This comes in response to concerns about Nigeria’s current regulatory stance, which has led to legal battles and the detention of cryptocurrency executives.

Our take:

A compliance-focused regulatory environment can drive innovation and maintain trust and help create a healthier ecosystem for the crypto industry in Nigeria.
