Don’t worry, these secrets can stay between us.

Turn on your Switch from the couch.
THE #1 issue I’ve heard from new Switch users is “why can’t I turn on/turn off the Switch using the controller?” You can.

To turn on the Switch, simply press and hold the home button for 2–3 seconds. The joy-con’s will connect amidst powering on the system.

To turn off the Switch, simply press and hold the home button for 2–3 seconds, now pulling up a sub-menu allowing you to enter “Sleep Mode”.

Putting on the wrong wrist strap.
You can’t. All wrist straps are the same. What you’re like missing is the little +/- sign designating which side is facing up. Align the +/- to either the left(-) or right(+) joy-con.

Playing with the a sole joy-con WITHOUT the wrist strap.
Many people I know attempted to play with the joy-con’s — minus the wrist strap. The wrist strap allows for added girth and two much needed shoulder buttons. I know many people who never looked twice and assumed the wrist straps were just, well, wrist straps. You’ll never look back.

Specifying controller configuration
I’ve seen many reports claiming you can’t play 2 player Mario Kart 8 Deluxe four joy-con’s in two grips. It’s completely possible, you just need to select “Change Grip/Order”. Two clicks from the home screen.

Select “Change Grip/Order”

Just remember, it’s okay. I had to Google how to turn on my PS4 for the first time. With all new technology comes a learning curve.
