Giant by Soul Electric
You may not recognise the alter ego but you will know the man behind the moniker Soul Electric. It is none other than the legendary Ron Carroll. This incarnation of Carroll is a nod back to his roots and the soulful preachings of his early years.
Many who have lived in the EDM bubble will not realise the soulful extent of Carroll’s work and the back catalogue of his music. The Minister of Sound was the lyricist behind ‘I Get Lifted’ and was the talent behind the seminal ‘Back Together’ on Soulfuric. So therefore, the Minister has now become Soul Electric so he can pursue that soulful sound which forms so much of his legacy. The vehicle by which he can deliver that roving, hip moving manifesto is his new record label The Chicago Soul Exchange.
The label has previously seen collaborations with genre defining vocalists such as Robin S, CeCe Peniston, Jill Scott and Sheree Hicks. This time, Soul Electric uses the voice Shirley Caesar to preach from a gospel pulpit and give worthy pipes of praise to the track ‘Giant’. Caesar is well known in the gospel community and has released over 40 albums so it is with a real sense of joy that she can be heard beckoning one and all to her world.
She feels like shouting as the beat slides away to reveal a story and that happy clapper moment. When the piano comes to town there is no denying the fact that the pews would be rocking. This stands alongside all the other great producers like DJ Spen that have really hit their strides with this uplifting, foot stomping vibe lately.
The European events like Soul Heaven should take note. Soul Electric is charged and ready for action. In keeping with that action notion, he is never a man to stand still and shortly off to Australia to bang the drum. With tunes like this is in the bag, the dance floor will be a spiritual place indeed. Take my money.
