I remember those days when everyone had to be on social media.
Like, everyone.
Content creators see social media as access to the Internet Economy where there is finally a pathway to sustainable income without pandering to their bosses and annoying clients.
“Just be you. People will pay to consume you!”
Well… nice. Except reality has a nasty way of kicking sh!t out of our arse.
That is… if we fail to side-step the booby traps along our way.
Trap # 1: Thinking that ‘content’ sells
Your end goal matters.
To me, the internet is the world’s biggest marketplace. Blogs, social media, platforms, newsletters, and other mediums are simply distribution channels for our work.
These channels allow us to get our work out to the masses.
I say ‘work’.
Many think ‘content’.
And I think ‘content’ is the [real] reason many online creators fall off the cliff. ‘Content’ is ambiguous. What is ‘content’ to begin with?
