I’ve spent most of my life believing that multitasking was the way to go. I’m 90% sure that I only held that belief because I have ADHD and OCD so what other choice did I have? It wasn’t until recently that I discovered that multitasking isn’t even real.

What we refer to as multitasking is really just rapid task-switching, which means that you’re repeatedly forcing your brain to change its target. When you do that, you’re not really focusing on anything. You’re just wearing out your brain.

If you really want to get things done, you’ve got to focus on one task at a time. If you can do that, you’ll:

  • Complete tasks faster.
  • Be less stressed.
  • Produce high-quality work.
  • Might just enter a flow state.

Being focused sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Imagine how much more work you can get done with a bit more concentration. The only problem is that focus is hard to get and difficult to maintain.

Fortunately, there are plenty of quick ways to improve your ability to focus.
