7 Lucrative Ways You Can Start to Generate Hot Leads Online

When people ask me how I make a successful internet marketing campaign, there are specific responses I hear a lot.

“I wish I could do that, but I don’t know how” or “I can’t think of a good marketing strategy” And my favorite, “Isn’t online marketing campaign all scam!?”

From now on, if I hear any of this (and they’re genuinely interested) I’ll just send them to this very post.

If you want to build a successful online marketing campaign to generate leads and sell, you must learn how to build your email list and monetize it.

Email is the real deal. It can beat out Facebook, Twitter, mobile apps, phone calls, and even direct mail (catalogs, letters, postcards, etc.).

Email marketing is proven to be compelling and authentic. It’s the granddaddy of digital marketing tools. It’s targeted, data-driven builds trust, and generates direct sales. Email is the truth.

I don’t want to discredit building your following on social networks because they are essential, but not more than your email list. Truth is, your email list is your most valuable asset.

Now I’m aware that there’s a huge gap between knowledge and skill, called application. For example, you may know that building your email list is essential, but you might not necessarily know how to build your email list.

No worries, I got you covered. Here are seven proven ways to building a responsive email list.

I know you’ve heard the saying “there’s strength in numbers” before. Well, it’s true. The more people you have supporting, endorsing and promoting you and your endeavors the better.

Harnessing the power of joint ventures and affiliates yields significant results because you get access to an audience larger than you would by just promoting yourself. Not only that, but you and your product are getting an endorsement from a trusted source as far as the audience is concerned, which makes you as good as gold.

You can start with the following ideas:

  • Most subscribed Youtubers
  • Recognized Bloggers
  • Social media professionals

How to do this: Find 3 or 4 famous individuals in your niche that you know. Send them a quick email asking if they’d be interested in partnering or becoming an affiliate for your next product launch. Let them know why they should care and what they (and their audience) will gain from having a JV or affiliate relationship with you.

Creating “listening posts” via your social media pages is a great way to build relationships and generate leads.

Social media serves as a great outpost that allows you to engage with prospects and customers in a way that you may not be able to on your website or blog.

Use this opportunity to “warm” the sales pitch and get people on your email list. Provide people with enough context to develop trust. Educate, motivate, and entertain your audience; and when the time is right to link them back to your blog or offer.

Action Item: Schedule at least one hour per day for social media, even if you have to break it up into 20 minutes spurts throughout the day. Create 2–3 pieces of original content to posts for each day. Use BufferApp or Hootsuite to schedule specific times throughout the day went content will be sent out. Check back around those times to reply to mentions from your followers.

P.S. It’s also imperative to share other relevant content and comment on other people’s posts when appropriate. The idea is always to be apart of the conversation; be one of “us”.

If you have any type of established web presence, then the chances are that Google is responsible for the lion-share of your website traffic. That’s because there are (hopefully) lots of people searching for keywords related to your subject matter.

That’s the beauty of good SEO; people find you organically. Problem is, SEO is one of the most enigmatic topics bloggers and internet marketers come across.

Most just overstuff content with keywords hoping it’ll help them rank higher in search engine results. Others pay a few bucks and get many useless spammy backlinks that eventually get their blogs banned by Google.

So what do the smart folks do? They ignore all the ninja SEO tactics, create kick-ass content that their audience will love and share, and in the process get a bunch of natural backlinks that help them rank highly in Google and get tons of traffic.

P.S. You can’t build a halfway decent email list without a decent amount of traffic.

How to do this: Stop writing for search engines and write for people. When you write for humans, it has a natural flow that doesn’t sound robotic (which turns people away).

In my opinion, webinars are the best lead generation tools on the internet. There is a level of engagement that can’t be matched by blog posts, PDFs, or audio files.

All you need is decent audio quality, some killer slides, and an entertaining presence to get massive results from webinars. I wouldn’t go as far as to say a caveman can do it because there is a bit of a science to creating winning webinars, but it isn’t rocket science either. Webinars can be live, recorded, free, paid, affiliate webinars, contest webinars, or whatever else you want them to be.

Depending on how good you are at hosting/running webinars, you can build a massive email list with just this medium alone. Demio is the most popular webinar service provider on the web, but if the money is an issue check out Adobe Connect for free.

How to do this: Host a free webinar within the next two weeks. Include some great content and then send the attendees to a landing page with a free report or video in exchange for their email address.

While there is tons of free traffic available on the web, some people like to know precisely what they’re getting and buy traffic. I know a few people online that have their funnels and conversion rates down to a science so much that they are pretty much-buying customers.

The equation may look like this:

For every $100, you generate 15 leads to your squeeze page. Out of those 15 leads, you convert four, giving you a conversion rate of about 27%.

So $100 = 4 new customers/subscribers

Now, if each conversion represented $97, you just spent $100 to make $388 ($288 net profit) peep the science.

At the current rate;

$200 = 8 customers/subscribers and $776 ($576 net profit)

$300 = 12 customers/subscribers and $1,164 ($864 net profit)

Some people have a system like this in place but working with tens of thousands of dollars in PPC ads. Crazy right?

When it comes to paid traffic, you’re either dealing with pay per click (PPC), banner ads, or traditional advertising (which can still work, but not nearly as effective as it did back in the day).

  • Pay Per Click (PPC) — Pay per click ads are pretty straight forward; you’re ads are displayed on an ad network like Google (Adwords) or Facebook, and you pay every time someone clicks through on your ad. Depending on how much competition there is for your particular keyword, you’ll be paying anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars for every click. This is why the folks who know their numbers are so successful because it’s simple math, the more you spend, the more customers you get.
  • Banner Ads — Banner ads are pretty played out, but they can still be sexy and effective if executed correctly. Banner ads have been plastered around the internet so much that people are pretty much born knowing not to click on the flashy animated images in the sidebar. Banner ads should be used minimally at best. Aside from the actual copy, your website design and layout will be a massive factor in how effective your banner ad will be.
  • Traditional Ads — Despite the new digital wave, advertising in traditional media can still be an effective way to generate leads and build a list. In the previous issues of Entrepreneur Magazine that I received in the mail before, I remembered that Brendon Burchard took out double-sided full-page ads to promote his book, The Charge.

“Yours FREE! A Limited Time Only Exclusive! Get a FREE copy of The Charge by Brendon Burchard, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author.”

There is a URL that they give where you can watch a video talking about the book. You provide your contact information, including your email address, in exchange for the “free” book. I don’t know Brendon Burchard personally, but I know that what he’s doing is probably generating a ton of new email subscribers.

How to do this: Try testing out one of these three types of advertising. You don’t have to invest a ton of money, but experiment with some ads and see if you can get a few more subscribers.

Blogging is a great way to generate leads for close to nothing but a little time. All you need to get started is a self-hosted WordPress blog, some inexpensive web hosting, and a well-designed theme, and you’re in business. Passion is a prerequisite; blogging isn’t for those looking for instant gratification or results. Blogs are best used to “warm” the sale, so think long term.

According to Hubspot’s research, businesses that blog get 55% more visitors, 97% more inbound links, and 434% more indexed pages. This means more leads, more authority, and better search rankings.

If you’re not blogging for some strange reason, I highly recommend reading online. There are hundreds of tutorials you can Google to learn about blogging.

Guest Posting — It’s not enough to produce content for only your blog. You also need to get your stuff on other blogs too. Writing guest articles is a great way to attract website traffic and generate leads.

How to do this: Reach out to 3 bloggers in your niche about guest posting. Write the most creative, useful content you can come up with. In your byline, include a link back to a landing page customized specifically for each blog’s readers. Give away freebies; a report, video, or exclusive interview in exchange for opt-ins.

A referral is the best and most credible form of promotion a business could ask for. Consumers are hip to “compensated actors” and celebrities with endorsement deals; they are no longer as effective as they once were. But if you can create an organic buzz about how great you are, then you’ll never have to worry about advertising. Want to know what the best way to get referrals is?

Give value first.

If you show your customers that you care, you are a person of integrity and can be trusted. You can commit to and deliver fantastic customer service. You will generate more referrals than you could ever imagine.

The beautiful thing is, once you get one, it’s easier to get the next. It’s like a snowball effect. A satisfied customer who will refer you is the most significant lead magnetic on the planet and always will be. Remember, people trust people. Impress the right people, and you’ll always be in business.

How to do this: Generate at least one referral in the next two weeks. Create a referral program and incentivize it to get people to take action. If your business is online, create a free report and secure it behind Pay With A Tweet on a landing page. If you’re just getting started, do something for free in exchange for a referral or testimonial. Referrals are contagious, get one, and it leads to the next.
