7 Reasons Having a 9 to 5 is Way Better Than Freelancing
It took me a while to realize — here’s why

When COVID hit, I had the pleasure of being a Contact Tracer for less than 2 weeks. It was a terrible job, but a learning experience to be sure.
I started writing online and living off my savings and my parents’ generosity. A few months later, I landed a contract with an online news magazine.
After 4 contracts with them, writing for clients on my Fiverr, and writing here, I have come to the conclusion that having a 9 to 5 is far superior to freelancing. Why do you ask?
#1. Freedom to take breaks — for $$$
Freelancing is one big break. You have a ton of free time, but you are only paid when you are grinding out the work. The amount of effort you put in is very closely correlated to the income you earn.
9 to 5’s are a bit different.
There is water cooler chitchat. There are Christmas parties you are paid to attend. Yes, you work hard at your job. Because of that, you get to reap the rewards.
My lunch break is paid. It’s wonderful!
#2. Stability is underrated
As a freelancer, I was always concerned until my contract was re-upped. Those last few weeks of the big, moneymaking contract were always nerve-wracking. What would I do if it wasn’t extended?
I didn’t diversify my income enough as a freelance writer. I know that now, looking back.
At my 9 to 5, I can rely on a steady paycheck. I’ve been at my organization for close to a year at this point, and fingers crossed I don’t get let go anytime soon. I know exactly how much will be deposited into my bank account every two weeks, and it never ceases to thrill me.
But. There is a but. Don’t get too comfortable. Build up an emergency fund. Get your side hustle on. You never know when you might need additional income.
#3. Reason to get up in the morning
Wouldn’t it be nice to sleep in a few extra hours instead of going to work?
