When COVID hit, I had the pleasure of being a Contact Tracer for less than 2 weeks. It was a terrible job, but a learning experience to be sure.

I started writing online and living off my savings and my parents’ generosity. A few months later, I landed a contract with an online news magazine.

After 4 contracts with them, writing for clients on my Fiverr, and writing here, I have come to the conclusion that having a 9 to 5 is far superior to freelancing. Why do you ask?

#1. Freedom to take breaks — for $$$

Freelancing is one big break. You have a ton of free time, but you are only paid when you are grinding out the work. The amount of effort you put in is very closely correlated to the income you earn.

9 to 5’s are a bit different.

There is water cooler chitchat. There are Christmas parties you are paid to attend. Yes, you work hard at your job. Because of that, you get to reap the rewards.

My lunch break is paid. It’s wonderful!

#2. Stability is underrated
