In contrast to gaining social media followers, building an email list requires a long-term strategy.

When I set up my newsletter in May 2020, I had zero subscribers and no strategy. My value proposition was unclear, and I didn’t expect my newsletter to grow at all. Fourteen months later, I’m at almost 3000 subscribers.

Growing your newsletter is easier than you might think. Here are seven things I learned that will help you grow your subscriber base.

1) Use Data to Niche Down

In the beginning, I didn’t know what to write about. My call-to-action was a fluffy “Want to connect? Subscribe here.”

I didn’t have a target audience, and I didn’t know how to deliver value.

But once I read Nicolas Cole’s book on writing online, I realized what I had to look out for.
