A 9–5 Does Not Mean Your Business Is Failing
Real reasons to keep a 9–5 with a successful business
Recently, a family member of mine, let’s call them Ty, decided to start their own business. They reached out to another family member, who we’ll call Ash works a 9–5 and has tried to start multiple businesses without making a profit, for advice on marketing and business. Both people are aware of my business despite not fully knowing the inner workings of it. Ash recommended that Ty contact me because of my experience growing a similar business.
However, Ty suggested that I wouldn’t give good advice because my business wasn’t successful. Ash countered and informed them that I had a profitable business and could give better advice. Surprisingly, Ty retorted “Why does she still work a full-time job if she has a profitable business?”.
In Ty’s mind, my business is only successful if I leave my full-time job and pursue it full-time. This is likely a common thought among non-entrepreneurs and early business owners. In fact, this very idea may cause some to leave their full-time job too soon and strain their early-stage business.
