A Brief History of AI — How it all Began

A few days back, I had a call with a friend who works in IT; software testing, to be precise. We had a good conversation for about 24 minutes. He immigrated to Canada in 2021, four years after me. During the length of the call, we exchanged our thoughts and feelings about life. In doing so, I complained that I was not happy with my salary and his response to that was this:

“At least you won’t lose your job to AI!”

The world has been buzzing with information about AI, even during the pandemic. Thanks to the most recent technology dubbed ‘Chat GPT’, tech fanatics were glued to their screens testing what this new software could do. But though it may seem recent, the idea of Artificial Intelligence has been around since the early 1950s.

The Birth of AI

The first computer invented by Charles Babbage was nothing but a calculator. In 1943, the world’s first electronic computer was built. It was coined ENIAC, short for Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer.
