Being Offended is a Choice.
And, it’s time to reclaim our power.
“ He who takes offense when offense was not intended is a fool, yet he who takes offense when offense is intended is an even greater fool for he has succumbed to the will of his adversary.” ~Brigham Young~
“You made me mad!” A phrase we have heard and probably said all through our lives but, how true is it? And, how much impact do those words have on our psyche? Does another person have the power to ‘make me mad’? Does another persons opinion have the power to offend us?
The other day I commented on a post who’s author responded by telling me I was whining. At first, I was pretty annoyed and I really, really wanted to respond with my own insult. I put it aside, though, and went about my day. As it would come up in my mind I just thought about it. Was I feeling offended because there was a grain of truth in what they said? Or, was it something else?
I looked up the definition of ‘whine’ and Merriam-Webster defined it as:
whine
1a: a prolonged high-pitched cry usually expressive of distress or pain
b: a sound resembling such a cry
2: a complaint uttered with or as if with a whine
