Brain Fog? New Research Says Inflammation to Blame

I’ve had a very strange relationship with inflammation over the years. The first curveball was when the same symptoms associated with trouble foods started popping up after intense workouts. I’ve come to recognize the bridge between the two as inflammation. New research out of Queen Mary University seems to support this idea. I feel a little less crazy, which is nice.

Understanding the Problem

Inflammation is a helpful response that allows our bodies to fight off nasty things like bacteria. This can start to cause problems in cases of autoimmunity, stress, or any number of other chronic health conditions. Many research papers I’ve read ultimately conclude by saying something along the lines of “inflammation plays a major role in most diseases.”

This study, published in the November 15th edition of journal NeuroImage, sought to better understand the role inflammation plays in cognitive performance. Dr. Ali Mazaheri, a senior author of this study, noted the following with regards to inflammation:
