One Fall afternoon, I was listening to a podcast on happiness and learned that I was doomed.

An expert psychologist, in appropriately chipper tones, was citing study after study showing that people who were happier tended to be more successful, healthier, and more financially well-off. Those who struggled with happiness reported the opposite.
