Instagram already proved to be a great way to grow your business. If you are a small business owner and you are still not using IG to get more clients you are probably leaving a lot of money on the table. There are good ways and bad ways to grow your account and increase your sales using Instagram.

We see our customers as invited guests to a party, and we are the hosts. It’s our job every day to make every important aspect of the customer experience a little bit better. — Jeff Bezos

Today I would like to talk about a brand new feature that Instagram just released in Decembre that is the ability to add countdown timers to your stories. Before I go further I would like to be certain that you know a few basics about how to grow your account and for that, I would recommend you to visit Eduardo Morales article that talks in detail about how to do just that.

Now that we know what are the first steps into growing your account let’s talk about the new feature from Instagram that allows you to get more traction with your events or sales: The Countdown Timmer

Time is clicking — Are you using this in your marketing?

I hear some of you saying, big deal another sticker in our stories, but this is not only another sticker, but this is also something you can easily use to:

  • announce events that are happening in your business
  • announce sales
  • announce product launches
  • or even set the timer down to a date and time that means something for you

The best part about this is that your followers can subscribe to your countdown timer. This is going to send them a reminder automatically when the time is running out… Having this in your marketing arsenal is going to make your clients experience FOMO (fear of missing out) and act instinctively by visiting your store and buying from you.

Another great benefit of having a countdown in your stories is that your follower can also share the story with their friends. This is going to help you attract more people and grow your audience. If your account has less than 50.000 followers, you also receive a direct message each time someone subscribes to your countdown timer.

How do you create a countdown timer story

  1. You start creating a story by adding a photo or a video
  2. You select the stickers and search for the countdown
  3. You give the countdown a name… try being creative using names like “Sales ends in”, “One Day Sale”, “Save 20% today”, “Christmas is coming in…” (and adding something else to the story that is relevant like — don’t forget to buy x)
  4. Set the time of your countdown. Now you can select All Day option where your countdown leads up to the day you selected and ends up at midnight or you can deselect that option and set a specific date and time (hour and minute) when you want the countdown to end.
  5. Change the color of your sticker and click done.

Every company’s greatest assets are its customers because without customers there is no company. — Michael LeBoeuf

This has a huge potential for small businesses. No matter if you promote a sale, an event or something else, your followers are going to be reminded of it and you can profit more from your story.
