“It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.” — Arthur Conan Doyle as Sherlock Holmes

In my previous article I touched briefly on the importance of data driven decision making, you can find that article HERE.

Now if you’re like me terms like big data, data science and analytics dominate your news feed. If you follow technology or are in the job market and spend any time on linkedIn you have surely come across the term “#datadriven”- does this confirm importance? Considering our own usage and interest selections drive YouTube, linkedIn and others alike I would argue no. What we lack here is objectivity.

This wouldn’t be much of an exercise in data driven decision making if we agreed on the importance of the topic without proof. So let’s go beyond this, let’s see what data we can access and analyze.

Twitter API

Our data source will be Twitter; here we have found a largely unsolicited resource where participants choose to express themselves freely.
