Discussing the Security of Chrome 78 Local File Access

In a recent announcement, Google announced that Chrome 78 will include features which allow webpages to access your local file directories. The announcement was made here, if you want to read up on the update before this article.

I thought this was an interesting update, and wanted to take some time to discuss it from a security perspective. Given that the idea of accessing local files is new to web pages, it is important to discuss and critique the idea as much as possible, to ensure it is kept secure.
