Disney’s $4 Billion Domestic Year?

Disney’s film releases in 2018 set an all-time record. 2019 will beat it.

Disney experienced a record year for domestic box office grosses in 2018, with a total of $3.092 billion in receipts from 13 releases, the highest total ever for a single studio.

The total domestic box office was also a record year, at $11.9 billion. But Disney by far led the studios, primarily boosted by the company’s Marvel properties Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, which combined for a total just over $1.5 billion.

Despite the amazing performance of Disney’s films in 2018, 2019 will be an even more massive success for the company. Just how much can Disney exceed 2018’s record?

Based on the potential of the studio’s 2019 release slate, I believe Disney can double it.

2019 is already off to a strong start, despite it being a late one for the studio. Captain Marvel, Disney’s first for the year, released on March 8, 2019, and is on pace to reach a domestic box office of at least $350 million.

This will be followed by Dumbo (3/29), Avengers: Endgame (4/26), Aladdin (5/24), Toy Story 4 (6/21), The Lion King (7/19), Artemis Fowl (8/9), Frozen 2 (11/22) and Star Wars: Episode IX (12/20).

If we base the potential domestic earnings of the three upcoming live-action Disney classic remakes on the average of previous high profile live-action Disney…
