Don’t Trust the Internet. Ever.
TL;DR: Most content on the Internet is written by underpaid content writers who have zero personal knowledge of the subject at hand. Many of the articles at the top of Google were researched using Google. Beware.
A brief anecdote, to highlight the issue:
It’s winter in Colorado, now, which for me, means it’s time to start ice climbing again. I somehow managed to lose my favorite pair of thin gloves at the end of the last ice season, which means I’ll need new ones this year. As a fairly new ice climber, I wasn’t quite sure exactly what I wanted to replace them with. There are many nuances to choosing a climbing glove.
So, a bit overwhelmed, I turned to the Internet and did some quick Googling.
I ended up here: https://www.tripsavvy.com/best-mountaineering-gloves-4173994
Not to call this particular website or author out, but I knew within the first sentence that they didn’t know what they were talking about.
“Denali, Aconcagua, and Karakorum rank as the trinity of must-ascend peaks for serious mountaineers”
Denali and Aconcagua are mountains, yes. But Karakorum? That’s a mountain RANGE, not a peak (it’s also misspelled). No “serious mountaineer”…
