Elicitation and Collaboration: the main path for Business Analysis

Elicitation of requirements with the stakeholder’s collaboration is the main responsibility of the Business Analyst, and from outside this may seem very simple, but in reality, this comprises one of the most important, complex and critical areas of knowledge to be unpacked by the in Business Analysis. The reason is that this may involve the most different variables and brings a direct impact on the success of the project.

According to the BABOK® Guide version 3: “Elicitation and collaboration describes the tasks that Business Analysts perform to prepare for and conduct elicitation activities and confirms the results obtained. It also describes the communication with stakeholders once the business analysis information is assembled and the ongoing collaboration with them throughout the business analysis activities.” The BABOK® Guide defines five main tasks to be done in the Elicitation and Collaboration knowledge area, they are:
