In 2017 google launched their first smart glass, it is also the first smart glass in the world of technology. Its framework is like any other normal glasses the only difference lies in its right-hand side strand, where the main technology is implemented due to which the glasses look asymmetrical. The right-hand strand projects out a prism which is indeed the actual glass of the spectacle and so it is also called optical head-mounted display. It does not hinder your normal vision as the prism is located in the right upper corner of the frame, you just need to look up a bit to have a vision over the glass.

According to google looking through the glass is like watching a 25inches screen from 8 feet away. To make the glass work it is needed to be connected to a MyGlass app in your smartphone through Bluetooth threading or WiFi. Very Google glass have some basic functions and those are 1. Taking Pictures, 2. Recording videos, 3. Navigation through google map, 4. Calling and messaging, 5. Google. All these functions could be controlled by voice action, we have to say “OK GLASS” and the tell the action we need to perform. For example to take a picture you need to say “OK GLASS TAKE THE PICTURE”, or to call someone from google contacts we need to say “OK GLASS CALL JOHN”. The same thing could be done for navigation and to search something in google. In google map navigation it would guild your direction with a real-time arrow in the map. You could also slide between windows or screens by using the touchpad of the glass.

Using a smart glass is just like using a smartphone app. The features discussed of this smart glasses are not limited to what is mentioned above, It could be used in different field like medical, industries and other working places and functions could be added to it according to the required working places or working situation.

But this not the end of its evolution. The technology of smart glasses is going to take a new turn with the release of Intel Smart Glasses in the market. The entire model of smart glass is officially declared by Intel and it looks like these glasses are going to out-smart google glasses. These glasses are called Vaunt . The most amazing thing is that these glasses look normal and symmetrical, unlike google glasses. It does not contain any camera so it is non-annoying in a social situation, it basically made for information purpose. It has a little red monochrome projector that shines an image on a holographic mirror and then bounces it directly into the eyeball. A vertical cavity surface emitting laser emits the information on a holographic grating to reflect the correct wavelength into the eye. The image which is formed is called Retinal Projection, as a result, the image is actually painted in the back of the retina, to have bright sharp clear image of the information.

Now it might look crazy that notifications would pop up from Facebook and Twitter all the time in front of your eyes. That’s why Intel has used A.I. powered technology which would use eye gestures to control these sort of actions like controlling notifications and switching tabs or windows which is different from google glass which uses a touchpad for these purposes.

There are companies like NORTH which are also coming up with smart glasses and their technology also tend to challenge both Google and Intel with their design, interface, and price.

Technology is changing from day to day. Smartphones have changed a lot a things in our day to day life, but what these smart glasses are going to change? Are we ready to wear a technology on our face? Will this technology survive among common people just like smartphones?
