Everything You Should Know About How to Structure a Startup’s Fundraising Pitch
Giving a perfect pitch is possible, but it’s also hard work
Greek mythology gives us the story of an innkeeper named Procrustes. He owned what might, today, be described as a quaint bed and breakfast on the road between Athens and Eleusis. At Procrustes’s inn, hungry, weary travelers would often stop to spend the night, and their host would treat them to a lavish meal and refreshing bath. Once they were well-fed and clean, Procrustes would invite the travelers to sleep in what he claimed to be the world’s most comfortable bed. According to the innkeeper, his bed would perfectly fit anyone who tried it.
While you’d think that type of hotel would have 5 stars on whatever the ancient Athenian equivalent of TripAdvisor was, unfortunately for guests, Prucrustes’s magical bed had a fatal flaw… literally. It wasn’t made with a space-aged memory foam that perfectly conformed to a sleeper’s body. Instead, Prucrustes ensured a perfect fit by making sure sleepers conformed to his bed.
When people were too short, Prucrustes would use the rack to stretch them until they were long enough. When people were too tall, Prucrustes would chop off their legs to shorten them. Save for a few lucky souls who were the perfect size and woke up…
