Forget Spain and Portugal. For the Best European Golden Visas, Think Outside the Box
The best European golden visas require some creativity.
There’s a continual evolution in the world of golden visas and long-term travel destinations. People looking for new places of residence or second homes have long searched out desirable locales to set down. Much like fashion, some destinations are in vogue, until overpopularity mandates change.
Southeast Asia was once the prime destination for anyone wanting to live elsewhere for years if not decades. It didn’t require much (if any) paperwork. At one point, all you needed to do was cross the border, return the same day, and you’d have a fresh set of months ready to go. But other than Argentina, I’m not aware of any prime long-term destination that still has this feature.
Thailand cracked down on this. Bali started forcibly kicking long-term tourists out (though continued bad behavior ultimately led to this decision). Now, Spain and Portugal, two prime golden and digital nomad visa nations, have begun pivoting away from long-term foreign residents.
