If you’re a working freelancer, you need a professional-looking invoice. The right invoice conveys professionalism and accountability — which all serves to get you paid as quickly as possible.

Yet despite that simple fact, most of the freelancer invoices I’ve seen over the years as a writer and managing editor are complete trainwrecks.

FYI: If you text your clients a picture of a post-it note with dollar signs on it, you’re probably not going to get paid.

There’s no excuse for emailing janky Word docs and unreadable spreadsheets to the people responsible for paying you. Not when you can create a professional invoice in just a few minutes using Canva or even just a simple Google Docs template.

So to help you out, I’ve included my freelance invoice template and all the information you need to include on an invoice. I’ve been using this for the past six years with all of my clients, and I’ve never had a late payment. Not once.

Just click the link above, make a copy in Google Drive, add your details, and start getting the money that you’re owed.
