John Hogan doesn’t want to be an artist who only does one style of glasswork. Each of his pieces shows a different direction and technique. Buyers can enjoy knowing that they not only are receiving an artist’s unique vision but also a unique piece.

While artists may not want to commoditize their art or may want to be sure each piece is a direct expression of their physical labor, generative tools have the potential to allow artists to create more objects and experiences in more mediums than ever before throughout history. In turn, the practice of design in every niche, from the physical to the electronic has the possibility of being embued with individual artistic direction.

The changes to art and design by generative tools will define or redefine what it means to practice in the respective fields for the future.

Generative Art

There was an exhibition in Paris in 2018 called Artists & Robots, reviewed by Susan Taylor Leduc, which included three sections:

  • “Machines to Create,” focuses on how artists put together robots to paint, dance or produce music.
