It’s not hard to see the evils of social media. It’s not hard to see division and examples of tribalism on an epic scale. Many will bash Twitter, Facebook, and every other media platform under the sun for the garbage it produces. However, everyone seems to forget one thing.

We produce the garbage ourselves.

I remember ages ago in college sitting through a class about technology. They introduced me to a term called WYSIWYG (pronounced wiz-e-wig).

The acronym above stands for What You See Is What You Get. Just about every form of social media is WYSIWYG. It can only put out what we put in. If you see a toilet when you jump on social media, it’s because the users created that crap house.

The users being: you and me.

Think about everything you’ve posted over the course of your life on social media. If you had that list placed in front of a person you respected for review, almost in a St. Peter type inspection, would you be proud of…
