How is the world of work changing as a result of digitization?
Every intelligent person should observe it: Various changes in the world of work can be foreseen.
Process changes are a natural change through digitalization. The introduction of IT and more and more application possibilities result in changed processes. One could quote the principle here: The IT should adapt to the processes and not the processes to the IT. (I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.)
But there are often such enormous advantages to digitization. It would be negligent and unwise to keep conventional processes the same way. How does digitization change the world of work? In the future, employees will face more and more process changes.
Freelancers instead of employees
From the United States, you can hear that freelancers work there on a project basis in various companies. They do not maintain a permanent employment relationship with a company.
Instead, they work as freelancers for these companies. The bond to a certain company is no longer so close. If a project ends in one company, a freelancer can easily start in another company. This gives you more flexibility in the choice of your activity. You can choose which projects you want to work on or not.
Of course, you can now say that this is much more uncertain and that there is no regular income. Especially in the USA, it is much easier to get rid of an employee.
What happens then? Yes, then you are rid of your job. As a freelancer, however, you already have the basis to quickly get into another project and not have to give up wages and bread.
How does digitalization change the world of work? I believe that a change is taking place in Germany independently of digitization. In my opinion, there will be more project-based relationships to freelancers in our country in the future instead of fixed employment relationships.
Digitization could accelerate this change.
With every technological revolution, there has been: The fear that advanced technologies will lead to fewer workers being needed in companies and thus to fewer workers being employed.
Is the fear justified? I don’t think so. Of course, many manual activities can be automated by robots and artificial intelligence. But this does not necessarily mean that employees have to face dismissal.
The modern possibility of automation means that seen as a whole, increased prosperity can be seen. In the past, you had to work much more, even on Saturdays or even Sundays.
Nowadays we live in the comfortable situation of working 8-hour days from Monday to Friday. This is not a matter of course, but an achievement through technological improvements.
How is the world of work changing as a result of digitization? The digital advances of recent years have also contributed to increased automation of activities.
Computers are more and more able to take over complex human activities. I do believe that simple workplaces will be replaced by machines in the future with always the same, simple handles.
A trend that will continue from the past in the future.
Software is King
In my opinion, an important skill in the working world of the future is to be able to handle IT well. Intelligent software solutions require competence to deal with them.
Only then can the software unfold its full benefit when users are able to operate it.
How does digitization change the world of work? Software is being used in more and more areas. Mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones make it possible to take applications with you wherever you go.
Anyone who used to think that IT was just for nerds or office clerks is now facing a change. Even in craft or industrial areas, one should be able to operate software and work with it.
How does digitalization change the working world?
I think it has become clear to you. The world of work is about to undergo enormous changes as a result of digitization.
What can you do to prepare for it?
To be able to use the software and other technological solutions, you should always educate yourself further. Be happy when your boss sends you on further training. If he doesn’t think that’s necessary, you should proactively try to get further education.
As a manager or entrepreneur, you should also be concerned about training your employees. Talk to them about it and organize exciting training courses that will help your employees and your company move forward.
Are you afraid that your employees will leave the company after the training and that you have ruined the money? Remember: It is more expensive not to invest in the education of your employees and to keep them in the company.
Dealing with new technology requires curiosity on your part. Don’t close yourself off with a rebellious attitude and don’t say things like: “Who needs something like that, we’ve managed without it so far”! So, be open-minded, of course, always with a healthy evaluation of the whole.
Changed processes need good change management. Otherwise, fear and rejection can very easily germinate in the workforce. As a manager, make sure that the changes are accompanied professionally.
This can also be done by external consultants who are familiar with change management. It is really important to support employees in times of change.
How does digitalization change the working world? New technologies naturally bring about changes. However, it is not just a matter of following trends for the sake of hypes.
