Collaborations have given the world some great inventions.

In the late seventies, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield got together to give us a gift that would keep on giving — Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Together, they managed to raise the bar so high for ice cream varieties that some people are still trying to catch up.

You’re probably wondering what any of this has to do with DevOps. Well, you could say that the DevOps culture took a page out of Ben & Jerry’s book (figuratively) and decided to promote collaboration between the development and operations team — to streamline production and reduce waste processes.

We love the age-old concept of division of labor, but here’s the thing — sometimes a division of labor can get in the way of productivity. It can create delays, give way to red-tapism, and act as a dampener for creativity.

Collaboration, on the other hand, has the power to bring people together and speed up the product release cycle. Not to mention, cooperation between development and operations teams can improve overall end-user experience. What’s not to love about that?
