How to Get Started (On Anything)
Tips for getting started towards any goal you’re procrastinating on.
There’s a lot of advice out there about how to stay focused on achieving your goals, whether it’s a project, fitness, relationships, or whatever. Most of it, though, focuses on how to stay committed or how to continue envisioning the end goal for motivation. That’s great if you’re already moving, but it doesn’t help you get started.
I was reminded of this recently by a reply on one of my posts. Someone had pointed out that I, like others, left out how to get started on any real change. It reminded me of how I felt when I first started reading a lot of self-help advice. Motivated and ready to go, but stuck on where to start.
The hardest part about taking on something usually isn’t finding the motivation to do it. It’s generally figuring out where to start in the first place.
I think this comes down to the fact that motivational advice is pretty all-encompassing and tries to apply to any project you might take on. But information on how to get started with a specific goal usually needs to be more directed.
How you would learn to cook, for instance, is much different than how you would learn to handle relationship issues. It’s all well and good to know to stick with it and…
