How to promote your business on Google in 15 minutes

With absolutely no experience of online marketing, you can actually run your own Google Ad for your business in just 15 minutes!

Follow these simple steps

The tools available on this platform make the process really user-friendly.

First setup your business profile on Google My Business app:

1. Download and open the My Business app from the Play Store on Android or the App Store on iOS.

2. Click on “Add a new business”.

3. Enter your Business Name.

4. Enter your business category.

5. If you wish to add a location on Google Maps, choose “Yes” when it prompts you to add a location.

6. Add your address.

7. Pinpoint your location on Google Maps.

8. Add phone number and website.

9. Add business hours.

10. Click on “Save”.

Your screen should now display your business information, like this:

Now setup you Google Ads account:

  1. Download and open the Google Ads app from the Play Store or the App Store.
  2. Click on “Create new campaign”.
  3. Choose the applicable option and press next:

4. Choose the business you want to advertise on the next page and press next:

5. Choose whether you want to direct people to your website or your Google business profile. I suggest the second option:

6. On the next page, tap on “Next”.

Right, so now it’s time to write your Google Ad!

  1. Add the “Headline 1", “Headline 2", “Headline 3", “Description 1" and “Description 2" to your ad. Make sure you use clear concise phrases and please avoid any spelling or grammatical mistakes here as this is what your prospective customers would see on Google:

2. Make sure you enter your phone number on this page as your customers will be able to directly call you from this ad.

3. On the next page, add keywords to match your ad to Google searches. Be very particular as this would affect the searches for which your ad is shown.

4. On the next page, you can choose to show your ads locally to Googlers located near a particular address. You can choose to advertise in a 5 to 65 km radius.

You can also choose the second option if you want to advertise to people located in multiple locations. There is no limit to the locations that you can add here.

5. Next, you can choose your advertising budget. You can choose from amongst the given options or choose your own budget. I would recommend going for the latter.

Google will show you a range of budgets of your competitors. That is a good yardstick to measure how much you should spend. Personally I went for the least possible budget as one can always increase it.

Please note that a higher budget leads to higher number of ad clicks and potentially more business.

6. Finally, Google will ask you to review your ad. Make sure everything is correct and proceed.

7. Now Google will ask you to make payment to your Ad account. There are many payment methods(some of which mysteriously might not work) and the minimum payable amount in 500 INR or $6.72.

8. After making your payment, your Ad will be posted for review following which it would be active on Google.

Your Google Ads home screen should now look something like this:
