Reach out

  • Who are you?
  • What are you currently doing?
  • Where do you want to go (professionally)?
  • Why are you talking to them?
  • Set up a call at a time that works for THEM.
  • Start the call on TIME.
  • Ask them questions about the experience you’ve acquired in the ‘Get “Linked”In’ step
  • You’ll talk to people who are in the role you wish to transition to. You’ll get a lot of inside information. This will help you understand if this role is really suited for you.
  • You’ll give the impression to the other person that you are someone who is passionate about that role. In case their organization starts hiring for that role, they can refer you instantly!

In Summary

  • Determine the next step of your career. Introspect and reflect.
  • Do a LinkedIn search for the role that interests you and find out all the skills that these people possess. Commit to acquiring those skills.
  • Reach out to the people who work in your dream role. Schedule calls with them, share your experiences and learn from their experiences. At the end of this step you should have a network of people who can vouch for your passion towards your dream role.
