HyperX’s CES 2021 Lineup: New Gear and Expanded Availability
A new keyboard and Xbox charge station plus new worldwide launches for modern favorites
CES looks a little different this year, but the move to a digital event doesn’t mean that we’re missing out on exciting new gaming gear launches. HyperX kindly sent me some info about their slate, and it’s got a great mix of new stuff and expanded worldwide launches for some recent headsets and a mouse. You can read my thoughts just below, or scroll down to read their official press release.
The star of HyperX’s CES lineup this year is probably the new HyperX Alloy Origins 60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. This sleek keyboard uses the increasingly-popular 60 percent form factor, packing all the functions you need for gaming into a svelte body. I love smaller keyboards. They give you more room for mouse movement and for keeping microphones or headsets on your desk. Their small size also makes it easier to mix up your gaming setup when you feel like reorganizing, because they fit into more setups more easily.
HyperX’s Alloy Origins 60 ships by default with their excellent PBT double-shot keycaps, too. Unlike standard ABS plastic keycaps, PBT is more resilient to wear and tear over time. If you’ve ever had keys wear away into a shiny mess, you were probably using ABS keys. PBT is a premium extra-price feature, so it’s cool they’re including it by default. This new keyboard launches on February 22nd on the HyperX store, for the competitive price of $99.
For Xbox gamers, HyperX announced the HyperX ChargePlay Duo Controller Charging Station for Xbox, a small charging dock that can charge two Xbox controllers at the same time. It works with both the older Xbox One controllers, and the newer Xbox Series X|S controllers, and it’s officially licensed for the platform. It launches next month on the HyperX shop for $39.99, and in an impressive move for the price point, it also includes two battery packs, so you get everything you need right in the box.
The last three announcements aren’t new products, but rather worldwide rollouts for existing well-received gear. First, the HyperX Pulsefire Haste is now available globally. This lightweight mouse uses a hex honeycomb shell design to reduce weight as much as possible. It has dust-proof switches too, which are an absolute must in a shell that constantly exposes the mouse innards to the outside world.
The other two global launches are both headsets, and two of my favorites at that. First is the HyperX Cloud II Wireless, my personal pick for 2020’s best wireless gaming headset. The Cloud II Wireless packs everything awesome about the original Cloud II into a new design with impressive battery life, and at a very competitive $149 price point. If you’re looking for a wireless headset, and you don’t need Xbox support, it’s an easy first addition to your shopping list.
Also launching globally is the Cloud Revolver + 7.1. I was excited to review this one late last year, because I honestly thought HyperX was gently phasing out this design. It has perhaps the largest frame and pad design of any HyperX audio product, offering maximum comfort for those of us with larger heads. And its soundstage-focused tuning and cup design means that it has one of the widest sounds of any closed back headphone or headset on the market.
