If I Began Blogging Now, This Is What I Would Write About
And how I would sell it, too.

I began writing seriously in 2010. Without sounding old and hopelessly nostalgic, it was a very different time.
Now we’re in the golden age of content creation, it’s impossible to compare the two.
I call it the golden age because it seems like everyone is side hustling with a writing gig, content creation strategy, or second job/business to boost their income. We can blame the cost-of-living crisis for that.
It’s undisputable—the competition is more challenging than ever. If you’re beginning the writing journey now, you’ll be behind before you’ve even started. There are many ahead of you.
And if you’re relying on advice from two, five or ten years ago about how to earn money from writing, it's well out of date.
I'm not going to keep this information from you. The following is what I would write about if I were starting my journey right now and the marketing strategy I would use to promote my work.
Content-specific
Before I divulge the content strategy I would use, I want to clarify precisely the type of writing I'm talking about.
When I talk about “writing” in the piece, I’m referring to the content created by self-paced writers who decide when, how often, and what they write about.
This usually includes:
- Bloggers with their own websites or who contribute to writing platforms
- Email marketing bloggers (those who write on Substack, for instance)
- Authors
- Poets
In terms of paid writing positions, such as employed technical writers or copywriters, for example, you're not able to exercise freedom in what you're writing about (been there, by the way!).
You're bound by what your employer wants you to write. You're also restricted in the way you can promote your writing based on what your employer sets for you.
The strategies I'm talking about don’t apply to those employed writers with strict guidelines for their content. Sorry!
