I’m an old fart. I admit it. And as an old fart, I want to tell you a story. It’s about how I wrote my first novel at 57 years old, and in the intervening 13 years, I’ve written and published 70 complete novels. (Number 71 comes out in September 2024.)

I’ve also been able to make a full-time living at writing since 2011, thanks to Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform. I’m living proof that you can make a pretty decent living writing self-published novels.

Now, I don’t want to waste your time, so I’ll cut right to the chase with a few bullet-point facts.

1) I write science fiction novels (with a couple of technothrillers thrown into the mix, which haven’t sold too well).

2) Most of my books are 50,000 to 60,000 words long, although I’ve written novels in the 85,000-word to 110,000-word range.

3) All my books are self-published on Amazon, and my books are also on Kindle Unlimited (Amazon’s Netflix for books).

4) It usually takes me less than a month to write a book.

5) I published my first book on Oct. 12, 2011.
