Proactive Planning Makes Dual-Career Couples More Successful

I’ve talked to quite a few people lately about career challenges.

Some people are struggling to find their purpose.

Others are struggling with fulfillment. Some are having difficulty resisting the temptation to chase money.

Two women I talked to this week said they’re looking for ideas on how they can create career plans with their partners as they start to grow their families.

They don’t have kids yet but they’re still struggling to make the pieces fit together in their lives and relationships. They know it will only get harder.

I have two children and have navigated both successes & failures of relationships with ambitious and successful women.

I thought of dual career planning from an overly financial perspective. I didn’t do enough introspection or have deep enough conversations with my partner about values. On top of this, I over-committed my time, which led to neglecting my mental health and not prioritizing effective ongoing communication.

Juggling a growing family along with two high-pressure careers and other life responsibilities is not easy.
