Practical Steps to Balance Work and Friendship
Building a strong, lasting friendship can be just as difficult as managing a career.
In recent times, maintaining close friendships has become increasingly challenging for ambitious, career-oriented men and women. The problem becomes even more pronounced considering how sad or low you feel when you’ve lost touch with your close friends or work buddies, and the toll it takes on your work-life.
We all know that work can be overwhelming! From working longer hours, or taking on a promotion that requires additional tasks, relocating to another city, or trying to gain work experience in a new field. It could easily lead to an emotional or health drain if not properly balanced.
Although the goal for most ambitious people is to maximize work satisfaction, if your closest friendships are a casualty of your busy schedule, you will likely regret it.
It’s hard enough struggling with the 9–5s, virtual impromptu meetings, deadlines, or a business that doesn’t seem to be making steady returns. Realizing that there are no buddies to talk with, especially about how stressful work has been, is a lot harder to deal with.
But, where do the true friends come from, if not one’s past?
