How to design and facilitate productive and effective meetings that people want more of

Ask managers, project leaders, consultants or agile coaches about their meetings: Many of them tell you that they are not satisfied with their meeting experiences. Even though they are the ones that invite and conduct the meetings and can influence how it is done.

Meetings are often inefficient, messy, boring, exhausting and unproductive. In the worst case we leave the meeting without an outcome and have to meet again to start over. In other cases, a decision “has been made” and in the next meeting people start to question that decision again. This can be really frustrating and sucks.

Ineffective Meetings — a pain point in many organizations

It is not that people have bad meetings on purpose. Still, it happens frequently with all kinds of organizations and all levels with different people.

There are various reasons why this is the case and I will elaborate on these in coming posts.

We from creaffective GmbH and I personally have been working with numerous organizations on their meeting culture and the quality of their meetings. Especially in an agile context the number of meetings normally increases, so it is even more important that we get meetings right.

The good news is: Running great meetings is a skill that can be learned and deliberately improved. And there are good practices that work that one can use as a template.

We see this in our own company and we see this over and over again with our clients.

New book coming up: “Run better meetings”

Last year I have published my fifth book (in German) about running awesome meetings in which I summarized my learnings.

As so many of my international customers and contact people have asked about an English version, I am happy to announce that I started working on it.

It will not be a one-to-one translation from German to English but I intend to create new and tailored version using methods of user-centered innovation. Part of my process of creating the book is sharing the progress publicly and get feedback and comments.

There is now also a mailing list available if you are interested in being informed in irregular intervals. (Click here to sign up)

What is “run better meetings” about?

The book “run better meetings — how to design and facilitate productive effective meetings that people want more of” is a great helper to alleviate the problems and pain points I have listed above.

It provides:

  • tried and tested actionable meeting tools with descriptions how to use them
  • practical advice that can be implemented right away in the next meeting
  • case examples from other organizations that illustrate how approaches can be adapted
  • a practical framework when to use what approach
  • a one-page overview of each approach for quick access and usage

I am curious to hear your thoughts about what else you would expect.

Sign up for the mailing list to be updated.
