You won't code as much

It’s rare you will get to pick up a coding task from start to finish, especially if its a big task. If you do everything else will take a hit.

Below will become the new norm:

  • Reviewing other developers code will take up most of your time.
  • Meetings you will be in so many more meetings! This could be planning for the next lot of work or changes to the development process/cycle or meetings with the business.
  • Admin that’s right! Making sure documentation is correct, release plans & stories are updated. This list will keep on growing.
  • Reading requirements you will be asked your opinion on requirements on a regular basis and usually earlier in the process.

You can’t control everything

Trust your team! You will never grow as a team if you try and control everything. All developers have strengths and weaknesses, including leads. You don’t need to be an expert on everything.

You will start to lean on certain developers for their expertise on specific tech stacks as you know this will give you better results.

It’s hard to get
