I’ve been lucky enough to live and work remotely in some of the most beautiful places in the world for the past 20 years.

And during that time, plenty of people have asked me how they can get started as a digital nomad. Well, I’ve compiled my top tips and technical advice to help you make it as a remote worker.

Here are 8 things I wish I knew when I started working remotely. Hope it helps.

1. Embrace your hobbies

That’s right. The first tip on this list for remote work has absolutely nothing to do with work. Because long-term success as a digital nomad isn’t about crushing your Asana to-do list.

It’s about making life on the road feel like home.

I’ve always found that the best way to stay productive is to surround myself with things I like.

For me, that usually means finding a rock climbing gym or living near the coast so I can surf. Here in Spain, my wife goes to an aerial circus near our house a few times a week.

It pays to pursue your hobbies (or learn new ones) no matter where you are in the world. The stability and stress relief of your hobbies can give your life…
