Taking a look at Java enumerated types from the Virtual Machine perspective

Enumerated types, or “enums,” in Java sometimes are the correct solution to a particular problem, sometimes not. Taking a look at an enumerated type from the perspective of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) might give some insights.
