“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” — John Quincy Adams

Over the years I’ve started to synthesize the way I think about leadership — distill it down into a simple and easy to digest framework.

This has largely been for my own benefit, but also because as a consultant I spend a lot of time coaching senior leaders in organizations and I wanted to give them something to help them frame their thinking on their role.

This has become a particularly powerful tool for me in my day job with many ‘leaders’ I work with being cut from the “management” stone, and as a result, they often find it difficult to understand how they fit in a 21st-century organization — one that continues to demand fewer Managers, managing things, and more leaders who are enablers.

So, here it is. What I have ended up calling the 3 C’s of leadership — think of them as three pillars if you would — a tool for leaders to frame their role within the organization — the C’s stand for; Clarity, Culture, and Coach.
