The “6:00 PM Rule” That Changed My Life as an Entrepreneur
How setting a daily cut-off transformed my productivity and mental health.
One of the biggest challenges of being an entrepreneur is knowing when to stop. When you work for yourself, the lines between work and personal life can get mixed, and suddenly, you find yourself working late into the night, answering emails at midnight, and waking up exhausted.
I used to be one of those people who had the company chats on my phone in case I was away from the computer, but then I couldn’t stop answering when they needed me. I also used to say that it’s better to go home with everything done so you don’t have to worry about anything after leaving the office (a big lie that ultimately leads to overworking).
But after years and years of trying to adapt this lifestyle into something sustainable, I finally came to what I now call my 6:00 PM rule.
It’s exactly what it sounds like: at 6 PM, I stop working with no exceptions, no “just five more minutes,” and no checking emails “real quick.” Whatever isn’t done simply rolls over to tomorrow.
And that’s how this has been a game-changer for me.
