People don’t respond to your emails because nobody ever taught you the formula for writing an unforgettable email.

Unforgettable Email = Upfront + Simple + Unexpected + Empathetic + Visual + Respectful + Short + DestigmatizingManipulative

A few weeks ago I got an email from a super creative guy named Matt Pukas from a company called Gadget Flow. It was an important email. And I regrettably didn’t even open it. It just didn’t cut through the noise.

My nose failed me.

As a hardened marketer, my nose has been trained to sniff time vampires. I have to. I wake up to a shitload of unread emails every morning.

It’s painful not because of the amount, but because some ignorant person decided email should be boring.

A few days later, I got a brilliantly hilarious follow-up email from Matt. It was so good that it softened the defenses of this hardened marketer and left me staring at my screen. When I got to the second sentence, my serious face turned into a grin.
