The complete Sonos Review
I remember walking into a BestBuy a while ago and listening to Sonos speakers a while ago. I compared it to the Bose next to it, and decided that it sounded better. Since then, I have ignored Sonos for a while, as my house filled up with Bose speakers of every size.
The Bose sound was good for a while, but they never really got wireless well — which is strange for a company of that size and clout!!
Over a few years, the bass and treble high sound with no mids started to fatigue. Then, I walked into BestBuy again, and saw the Play 5. It did not sound great in the store, and I may never have purchased it.
I have a confession to make… I tried to build a Sonos like system myself with Apple TVs, Airplay 2 and my existing Bose speakers of various sizes and shapes. It did work, but it had a lot of issues and there were too many wires, and too many speakers sitting together.
Having tried to DIY this myself with Onkyo, Sonos Connect, Apple TV and Bose, I have to advice you:
Please do not try to build a Sonos-like system by yourself. The #1 mistake which people do (I think) is to try to build a Sonos “like” system by themselves.
