If you have invested a lot of time into social media like I have over the years, you may have experienced the guilt of being away from it on holidays.

I write on LinkedIn, typically, four times a day, every day, and publish new long-form articles on the internet eight times a week.

Recently, I took a holiday and found myself feeling guilty for posting less or having days where nothing was published. Readers would email me asking where I was or when I’d be posting next. It was a weird feeling that I’ve learned to become used to.

When you have spent so much time building an audience online, being away from it can cause all sorts of weird thoughts like “Could it all go away while I’m gone?” or “How much momentum am I losing while on holiday?”

An article in the Washington Post helps identify if you have a problem that is turning into an addiction with six questions you can think about. There is a fine line between feeling guilty about being away from social media and full-blown addiction.
