The new financial dream is to get a full-time job.
For many years, being a content creator and vlogger seemed the only answer to easy and exponential success.
It seemed like they had cracked the code for a dream lifestyle: They were earning a living by sharing glimpses of daily life, products they loved, and stories that resonated with millions—and they were making thousands of dollars with it.
“Content creator” became one of the most coveted job titles for young people. Many saw it as a direct and easy path to independence, fame, and fortune, and others saw it as the only way to make money in their current situation.
And the best part is that everyone said all you needed was a smartphone and some creativity to make it big.
When I was a kid, I watched hundreds of different YouTubers and admired the lives they created just because they decided to start uploading videos. I told myself I would have the courage to follow their steps one day.
But now, in 2024, this dream feels dead.
