You may be reading this because you’ve been eyeing the NFT scene looking for a way in that’s not too difficult to access, understand, or afford. Or maybe you’re an established cryptoartist smarting from high minting fees and seeking an environmentally — and socially — friendly platform where you can mint and sell your work. Either way, established NFT platform Mintbase — now newly operating on the NEAR blockchain protocol — might be your answer.

When I first started minting art on the blockchain (see my article “What the Heck is Cryptoart?” for an overview of what this means) in early 2020, Mintbase was one of a handful of possible reputable platforms. Fast forward to just under 18 months later, and suddenly there seem to be a zillion of them, posing a bewildering array of benefits and challenges. Meanwhile, sudden mainstream focus on NFTs has created backlash about carbon emissions and fuelled intense hype and FOMO. All this is noisy, distracting, and intimidating—even for those of us who’ve been here awhile.
