The Only 3 Things I Wish I Had Done Differently While Building My Online Writing Business
Take the shortcuts.
Based on my personality type, being an online writer might’ve been the worst career choice I could possibly make.
I love comfort, safety, and knowing what I’m doing.
And I hate feeling lost or not knowing what to do.
Yet, my job as an online writer requires me to feel uncomfortable and regularly step out of my comfort zone. At least if I want my audience and income to grow.
But if we’re honest, that’s not just true for digital creators. It’s true for pretty much anything in life.
Growth usually requires change, and if you’re trying something for the first time, feeling lost and not knowing what to do is the most natural starting point.
- I felt lost when I founded my first business in 2017.
- I felt lost when I started to write online in 2018.
- I felt lost when I built my first online coaching program in 2020.
- I felt lost when I started my email list.
- I felt lost when I went live on Facebook for the first time.
- And sometimes, I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing even though millions of people have read my writing, my business is generating six-figure profits, and I have thousands of happy customers who appreciate my work.
It’s all part of the progress.
Real imposters don’t struggle with imposter syndrome because they’re (too) confident about themselves.
That’s certainly not true for me.
I spend a lot of time worrying and wondering, but that’s okay because I know it only means I take my work seriously.
