After nearly two years of procrastinating, I finally published my first audiobook. I thought writing and publishing a book was hard, but the audio process might rival it.

My goal today is simple — help you make recording a book on ACX a lot easier than my experience. Because I butchered it at every step of the way.

Audiobooks are a growing industry and if you’re about to publish a book and/or already have a book, it’s a good idea to create an audio format to reach a wider audience.

According to Statista,

  • 50% of audiobook listeners are under 50 years old.
  • Audiobook sales revenue in the US reached 1.3 billion dollars in 2020.
  • Listeners tend to be high earners, with an annual salary of 75K or more.

Despite my struggles, I am proud to say that my book is on Audible and getting daily sales, so it was worth the frustration. Today, I’ll share the process, what I did right, my biggest mistakes, total costs, and how I’ll record an audiobook in the future.
